Don’t be! Even though there is a lot of interest in dogs, not much dog training knowledge is common knowledge. So please don’t watch the dog training shows on TV and then wonder why you can’t do it yourself. Although amazing transformations are possible with dogs in a relatively short time period, many of the TV trainers are not giving you the full picture, and that is why their work cannot be duplicated so easily. Of course this is not intentional, but there is more that goes into dog training than you may think…. So don’t hesitate to contact your local dog trainer for some help!
Helen’s Pro Tip: If you are wondering how to choose a dog trainer – I would recommend that you look at the trainer’s dog for clues. Many trainers post videos of themselves with their dogs. Check them out and ask yourself… Do you want your dog to act similarly? Training methods can have profound effects on dogs and so we want to be sure that you are using the right ones. Is the trainer’s dog nervously awaiting the next command? Frantic and pacing? Overexcited and jumping? Bored and over it? These are clues to if their methods work.
